Discover Why Leptin is Your Weight Loss Ally

VENUS FACTOR System: Leptin is a hormone is your body that has several nicknames such as, starvation hormone, obesity hormone and even fat hormone. Most people who are not personal trainers or in the fitness industry have never even heard of leptin and have no idea what leptin is.

So what is leptin and how does it affect your weight loss?

Leptin is a protein hormone that regulates energy intake and caloric expenditure by the body. Leptin also affects your appetite, food intake and metabolism. These are all key factors that affect your weight loss directly.

Leptin affects your energy. When your leptin levels are low, you will feel tired and sluggish. So, it’s essential to keep leptin levels at the correct threshold. The hormone leptin is produced by the white fat deposits and the adipose tissue in various parts of your body. The more fat you have, the higher your leptin levels.

That is the reason why people who start dieting often feel lethargic. Their fat cells lose fat which in turn decreases the amount of leptin produced thereby lowering energy levels. This is not a good state to be in if you’re planning on losing weight.

When your leptin levels drop, your body will go into starvation mode. That basically means your body will stubbornly hold on to its fat stores. To make matters worse, your brain will sense that you have no energy and start a chain of processes in your body to boost leptin levels. This is beyond your control.

Your vagus nerve will be stimulated and once that happens, you will start to feel hungry all the time and food cravings will develop. You may have heard of people on strict diets complain that they are constantly thinking of food and have cravings that are constantly tempting them.

Now, you’re probably thinking if low leptin levels mean you get hungry, then high leptin levels will mean that you are satiated. If overweight people have high leptin levels, why then do they still eat so much?

The answer to this question is leptin resistance. We all have a leptin floor but there is no maximum range for rising leptin levels. That basically means that your body does not get the signal to stop eating.

The best way to reverse this situation is to adopt a carb cycling diet. That means for three to five days you will be on a low carb diet and a caloric deficit. During this period, you will burn fat. However, by the 3rd to 5th day, depending on your body’s metabolic rate, your leptin levels will drop.

That is when you incorporate a cheat day. During your cheat day, you will eat at a calorie surplus of about 500 to 700 calories for the day. This will boost your leptin levels and restart the fat burning process for the next few days. You will need to experiment and see how you feel during this process.

If you feel sluggish by the 4th day, then have a cheat day on the 5th day. If you feel tired and worn out by the 3rd day, then cheat on the 4th day. The rules are not set in stone.

This is how you use leptin as a tool to lose fat. Once your leptin levels are stable, you won’t constantly feel the need to eat, and you’ll stop once you’re full. That’s the best way to maintain a healthy weight.
