The best way to reverse this situation is to adopt a carb cycling diet. That means for three to five days you will be on a low carb diet and a caloric deficit. During this period, you will burn fat. However, by the 3rd to 5th day, depending on your body’s metabolic rate, your leptin levels will drop.
That is when you incorporate a cheat day. During your cheat day, you will eat at a calorie surplus of about 500 to 700 calories for the day. This will boost your leptin levels and restart the fat burning process for the next few days. You will need to experiment and see how you feel during this process.
If you feel sluggish by the 4th day, then have a cheat day on the 5th day. If you feel tired and worn out by the 3rd day, then cheat on the 4th day. The rules are not set in stone.
